Biography

Jean-Marie Bigard, born May 17, 1954, in Fontaine-Luyères, Aube, is a French comedian, actor, writer, and director. He is currently 72 years old. His family background includes being the fourth and last child of a modest family; his father was a butcher who stopped working due to health reasons, and his mother worked at an automotive industry subcontractor. Summers were spent on a farm in Aube with his maternal grandparents. Bigard struggled with school, repeating fourth grade, but obtained a BEP in general mechanics at 16. He briefly worked as a gas station attendant and later started a business reselling old Citroën Traction Avants. His early experiences included working in a factory to collect unemployment benefits and bartending in Troyes to support his mother, who suffered from a serious illness.

Bigard began his career performing stand-up comedy and contributing to sketch programs. He gained wider recognition in the mid-1980s and wrote over 100 sketches for 'The Class' with Laurent Baffie. He also wrote for the comedy troupe Dummies on the program 'Nowhere'. His one-man shows, starting with ‘You Said Bigard’ (1988), are known in France for being vulgar and confrontational. Throughout his career, Bigard has appeared in numerous films, including 'Philosophale' (2001), 'Clérambard' (2010), 'The Professional Secrets of Dr. Apfelglück,' 'Arlette,' 'The Box,' and 'And Now... Ladies and Gentlemen' (2002). He also voiced Beefy in the French release of 'Little Nicky' and directed, wrote, and starred in 'The Soul-Sister' (1999). His highest-rated work on Rotten Tomatoes is 'And Now... Ladies and Gentlemen' with a 47% rating.

Bigard’s career has extended beyond film and television; he performed at the Paris-Bercy Arena and Stade de France. He hosted the radio show 'Les pieds dans le plat' on Europe 1 from 2014 to 2016. His personal life includes marriages to Claudia Bigard (1991-2009) and Lola Marois (since 2011), with whom he shares twins named Jules, Florian Jourda, and Bella, along with his daughter Sasha. Lola Marois publicly defends Bigard's right to free speech and describes their relationship as an ‘inconditional link.’ Recently, Bigard has faced health challenges, including a fall in March 2024, subsequent difficulty walking, rehabilitation, and the revelation of three strokes (AVC) in July. He is currently being properly monitored medically and has appeared with Laurent Baffie. Despite these concerns, Lola Marois shares updates on his well-being, and he recently appeared on ‘Tout beau tout n9uf’ on June 9, 2026, described as being in good form.
