Anne Kat Hærland is a Norwegian satirical comedian with over 25 years in the entertainment industry. She is primarily recognized for her appearances on the news satire show Nytt på nytt , where she worked from 1999 to 2007. Hærland is now also an author and speaker, demonstrating a versatility within the entertainment sphere. In November 2003, Hærland faced legal consequences after being arrested for driving under the influence. The incident involved crashing into two cars in Frogner, Oslo, and resulted in convictions for driving under the influence, reckless driving, and attempting to leave an accident scene. She received a 30-day prison sentence and a fine of 90,000 kr, and her driver's license was suspended for two years. Serving 25 days at Fredrikstad Prison due to good behavior, she later documented this period in her 2005 book Krig & Fred & Religion & Politikk & Sånn . Despite this challenging experience, she continues to be considered among Norway’s sharpest comedians by NRK. Currently, Hærland is deeply involved with Artificial Intelligence (AI) full-time, holding a position at Nora.Ai and giving lectures to businesses and industries about the subject. She is also touring with her critically acclaimed show "Don't Panic," which has received high praise from various media outlets including NP Avis (6 out of 6), Radio E (5 out of 6), and Radio Norge, which described her as “Genialt.” Norsk Ukeblad called the show "Veldig bra," and Dagsavisen noted she presents "Tankevekkende poenger." A sequel focusing on AI, “Don't Panic 2: A Guide to Artificial Intelligence,” premiered in November 2025 at Edderkoppen Teater in Oslo, with a Norway tour scheduled to begin February 6, 2026.

Viggo Venn

Viggo Venn is a Norwegian clown and comedian who has gained considerable recognition internationally. He received formal training at the École Philippe Gaulier, studying under Philippe Gaulier, which likely influenced his approach to physical comedy. Between 2019 and 2022, Venn participated in numerous tours alongside American comedian Zach Zucker, performing as the comedy duo 'Zach and Viggo'. The collaboration between them was fruitful, resulting in a Best Comedy win at the 2016 Brighton Fringe for their production, 'Thunderflop.' Furthermore, 'Thunderflop' received a Weekly Best Comedy award at the Adelaide Fringe in 2017. Venn’s solo work has also been acknowledged. 'The Life of Pepito' earned Venn nominations for the Best Comedy award at the Brighton Fringe in 2017, and subsequently at the Perth Fringe World in 2018. His talent continued to develop, leading to victory at the NATYS: New Acts of the Year Show in London in 2022, and a runner-up position in the Leicester Square Theatre's 'New Comedian of the Year' competition that same year. Viggo Venn’s career experienced a major turning point in 2023 when he emerged as the winner of the sixteenth season of Britain's Got Talent. As a result of this triumph, Venn was awarded a £250,000 prize and given an opportunity to showcase his talent at the Royal Variety Performance held at the Royal Albert Hall. Bruno Tonioli praised his physical comedy as world-class, drawing comparisons to Mr. Bean. Venn's performances aim to evoke laughter and emotion, incorporating movement and warmth into his act while exploring the intersection of beauty and strangeness. He currently has upcoming one-off shows and appearances, including a return of 'Zach & Viggo,' and plans for a Norwegian tour in 2026 with a new show called 'Viggo Venneløs.'

Norwegian Comedians

Norway has a lively comedy scene that includes stand-up, television, theatre, film and satire. Norwegian humor often combines dry observations, understated delivery and everyday situations with a distinctly Scandinavian sense of irony. Comedy in Norway is mainly performed in Norwegian, although many comedians also work in English and perform for international audiences. From legendary television personalities to younger stand-up performers, Norwegian comedians have built a strong following both at home and among Norwegian-speaking audiences abroad.

Famous Norwegian Comedians

One of the most recognizable names in Norwegian comedy is Atle Antonsen, an actor, comedian and writer known for his work in television, radio and film. He has been involved in several successful Norwegian comedy programs and is particularly known for his sharp, often absurd style of humor. Harald Eia is another major figure in Norwegian comedy, best known for combining comedy with social commentary and documentary-style television. His collaborations with Bård Tufte Johansen have produced some of Norway's best-known satirical comedy.

Norwegian comedy also includes performers such as Kristoffer Schau, Thomas Giertsen, Otto Jespersen, Jon Almaas and Anne-Kat. Hærland. Otto Jespersen is particularly well known for his provocative satirical style, while Anne-Kat. Hærland has become one of Norway's prominent female comedians through stand-up, television and writing. Together, these performers represent several different sides of Norwegian comedy, from observational humor and satire to character-based comedy.

Norwegian Stand-Up Comedy

Stand-up comedy has become an important part of Norway's modern comedy scene, with clubs and comedy venues in cities such as Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim and Stavanger regularly hosting performances. Dag Sørås is one of Norway's better-known stand-up comedians and has performed extensively both in Norway and internationally. His comedy is known for combining dark humor, social observations and commentary on contemporary life.

A newer generation of Norwegian comedians continues to expand the scene, with performers bringing their own perspectives on relationships, work, family, politics, technology and everyday Norwegian life. English-language comedy is also available in Norway, particularly in Oslo, where international residents and visitors have helped create a broader comedy community.
